Nurik Serikbayev
My story
My story
I'm Nurmukhambet (Nurik) Serikbayev, an Electrical Engineering student at NYU Abu Dhabi from Shymkent, Kazakhstan. I build robots that think, navigate, and act autonomously — from quadruped locomotion to Lunar Rovers presented at the Dubai Air Show.
I've interned twice at Lockheed Martin, conducted research at eBRAIN Lab and NYUAD STEM, and represented electrical engineering students as a Student Government Engineering Representative.
Outside engineering I train Jiu Jitsu with the NYUAD Falcons, play piano and drums, compete in debate, and run races. I believe great engineers are curious about everything.

Dubai Air Show 2025 — Lunar Rover Project
Led the Lunar Rover Space Exploration Project at CISS. Presented at Dubai Air Show 2025. Integrated VLA and LLM models, developed autonomous navigation with ROS2 + NAV2 + SLAM Toolbox.
Autonomous navigation and computer vision integration with Unitree Go2 + Intel D435i on ROS2 Humble. Reduced system downtime by 40%.
Deployed Unitree L2 LiDAR for autonomous navigation. Designed PCB circuits reducing troubleshooting time by 4–5 hours. Worked with CAN Bus and Jetson Orin.
Built ROS2 3D point cloud mapping pipeline with D435i + Jetson CUDA. Reduced localization errors by 70% with custom costmap + cartographer algorithm.
Optimized Spiral Neural Networks on Qualcomm QRB5 eBrainChips for embedded AI computation.
Assembled FPV drone from scratch. Coded PX4 software for pilot training simulation.
"Appreciation for the immense input to the Engineering Community at NYU."
